Bachelor of Arts, English, University of Tennessee, 1975
General Experience
Founded McPherson Environmental Resources (MER, Inc.) in 1993 after over ten years experience in direct or indirect support of environmental programs and initiatives funded by U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Operations (ORO) and DOE Offices of Defense Programs (DP) and Environmental Management (EM).
For the next ten years, led MER in the support of DOE DP’s Complex-Wide Pollution Prevention Program to include the development and production of regulatory training, technology transfer workshops, newsletters and other technical publications.
With degrees in English and Engineering as well as four years experience as a construction worker, is well-suited as a LEED Accredited Professional to work currently as a consultant to designers and builders toward the incorporation of sustainable design and construction practices into the built environment.
Relevant Experience
Sustainable Building Planning Consultant/LEED AP, McPherson Environmental Resources, 2004-2010
- Assists in development of sustainable building approaches for new construction projects and existing building renovations. Works with designers, engineers, general contractors and materials suppliers in integrating the LEED process into routine design and construction practices and schedules.
- Facilitates design planning charrettes and integration of requirements for targeted LEED points into credit-related specifications.
- Provides basic LEED awareness training, Construction Waste Management plans, Indoor Air Quality Plans, and other general administrative and organizational work relative to the LEED building certification process.
- Conducts research and reports on locally available and environmentally preferable materials for integration into LEED compliance plans, collects and verifies information supplied by subcontractors and/or general contractors.
- Coordinates among all design team members and/or contractor employees and subcontractors to assure submittals are timely and accurate. Manages, tracks, and maintains LEED documentation for respective client.
- Current Projects: Armed Forces Reserve Center, Mt. Carmel, TN; Gilliam Wellness Center, Milligan, TN; Tanasi Arts and Heritage Center, Unicoi, TN; Elizabethton Fire Station #1, Elizabethton; City Hall, Elizabethton, TN; Appalachia America Energy Research Project, Wise, VA.
Senior Environmental Engineer, McPherson Environmental Resources, Inc. (DOE prime contract holder 1993-2003) and Systematic Management Services, Inc. (1992-1993)—Environmental Safety and Health Support to U.S. Department of Energy, Washington, D.C.
- Provided technical support to Department of Energy (DOE) Defense Programs' (DP) Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization Program. Wrote, delivered, commented, reviewed, and responded to papers relative to this program. Coordinated DP's Pollution Prevention Workshops and developed other channels of technology transfer among DP entities.
- Member of Pollution Prevention Training Team that presented to DOE and contractor senior management at National Laboratories and defense plants. Assisted in development of manual for the above training, and developed benchmarking activity to assess and compare "lessons learned" in private industry to DP's experience gained through pollution prevention activities within the DOE system. Partnering with Concurrent Communications, Ms. McPherson's company, MER, edited and published DP's monthly newsletter, the Pollution Prevention Advisor, later renamed ESAVE.
- Co-produced award winning motivational anti-pollution multi-image presentation, shown at DP meetings and distributed to DP divisions as video transfer:
2000 NAGC (National Association of Government Communicators) Gold Screen Competition
First Place - Multimedia/Multi-Projector for "No Higher Priority" - U.S. Dept of Energy, Office of Defense Programs:
